The Daily Cougar has been in publication since the spring of 1928. It was first known as ‘The Cougar’ and became ‘The Daily Cougar’ in 1978. The newspaper is one of the university’s oldest traditions, as it was the first student activity at UH and began the adoption of the cougar as our mascot. We may well be the only university in the USA to name its athletic teams after the student newspaper. Today, The Cougar publishes Monday through Thursday during the Fall and Spring semesters, and Wednesdays during the summer term. It also publishes news on thedailycougar.com throughout the year.
